Volunteer Experience

In 2005, I started volunteering with Everybody Reads, a volunteer run reading and book gifting program at Noble Elementary School in North Hills, CA. Everybody Reads volunteers read to elementary school students and give each student a new book of their choice. The Tzu Chi Foundation has generously funded new book purchases since the beginning of our program in early 2001. Anonymous donors have funded program operations and supplemental new book purchases since 2010.

In April 2010, I stepped forward to assume responsibility for running Everybody Reads.

  • I took charge of volunteer communication and started building the "Everybody Reads" and "Everybody Reads @ Noble Elementary School" brands.

  • I designed, funded, and implemented Everybody Reads' first book inventory system. We currently have almost 3000 books in our inventory.

  • Through a number of initiatives, I am working to improve the retention and growth of the Everybody Reads volunteer base. We maintain an active volunteer base of over 300 people.

  • Seeking to shape Everybody Reads into a more responsive program, I am working to rapidly gather and make use of volunteer feedback and data from the Everybody Reads book inventory.

Between April 2010 and February 2020,

  • Everybody Reads volunteers spent over 13800 hours reading to Noble Elementary School students.

  • I grew monthly volunteer turnout by a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.8%.

  • Everybody Reads volunteers gave over 6100 new books to Noble Elementary School students.

  • Kindergarten to fifth-grade students at our monthly program have never seen the same book title twice.

  • Noble Elementary staff and I grew monthly Noble student turnout by a CAGR of 6.5%.
